We often connected the obedience to suppression because obedience seems to be the opposite to liberty. So, there are famous phrases like "Give me liberty or give me death", or "Life is dear, love is dearer. Both can be given up for freedom", etc. Since in flesh, we like to be free, how could we be obedient to God?
